FINAL POSTER

Dreamscapes of Freedom

ARTIST STATEMENT:
This artwork, “Dreamscapes of Freedom,” draws inspiration from the Y2K aesthetic, blending collage-style surrealism with a sense of dreamy rebellion. I created this piece to reflect my current thoughts, emotions, and desires for freedom and exploration. The stars and eyes are symbolic elements that convey the complexity of my inner world, representing the journey of self-discovery and my fascination with the unknown.
The concept stems from my yearning to live authentically and pursue a life where individuality shines. The stars that pop out from my eyes in the animation symbolize the dreams and ideas I want to bring to life—breaking free from limitations and embracing the vastness of possibility. They also highlight how my thoughts and aspirations are constantly expanding, much like the aurora I admire for its ethereal beauty and boundless nature.
The collage style allows me to express a balance between chaos and order, blending futuristic and nostalgic elements that resonate with the Y2K aesthetic. The pink tones and playful arrangement convey a sense of freedom, joy, and rebellion against conformity, reflecting my vision for a better, more authentic future.
Through this piece, I hope to inspire others to embrace their dreams, explore their individuality, and chase their own vision of freedom. As the stars burst forth, they remind us to live freely, stay true to ourselves, and make the most of every moment.

The animation further brings this idea to life, emphasizing the dynamism of my thoughts and dreams as they evolve and manifest into the world.

Reflections

Experience

This assignment allowed me to explore Y2K-inspired collage design and animation, combining personal expression with technical skills. Using Photoshop and After Effects, I learned techniques like layering, masking, and keyframing to create my poster and animation, especially the stars popping from my eyes. This effect symbolized my dreams and desire for freedom, which aligned with the theme of individuality and exploration.

Observations

I discovered how digital tools enable creative flexibility, from refining my color palette in Photoshop to adding movement in After Effects. Every element, like the stars and typography, was chosen to emphasize freedom and self-expression. Feedback helped me see how small adjustments could strengthen the design’s message.

Findings

This project showed me the importance of combining creativity with technical precision. It improved my confidence in digital tools and taught me how to express meaningful concepts through design.
