Final Design for Task 3:

Rationale

This design explores a dynamic visual aesthetic inspired by the theme “Glitch Mode.” The halftone background and glitch effects are used to evoke a retro-futuristic atmosphere, reflecting the ideas of digital distortion, visual noise, and fragmentation. These elements disrupt the conventional visual harmony and introduce a sense of movement and energy within the layout. Despite the visual tension, the composition maintains a strong focal point on the central figures, ensuring that the narrative of the design remains clear and engaging. A high-contrast color palette of bold yellow and black was chosen to enhance visual impact and create a striking visual rhythm. Meanwhile, the background was selectively softened using gradient masks and blur effects to guide the viewer’s attention towards the main subjects, particularly their faces. This balance between intensity and subtlety helps build a layered visual experience. The glitch effect—applied deliberately on the figures' clothing and text rather than their faces—symbolizes the interference between human presence and digital systems. It also adds texture and conceptual depth to the work, aligning with the theme’s message. Overall, the design merges analog techniques (halftone) and digital disruption (glitch) to create a compelling visual statement.

Reflections

This module has given me a firm foundation in understanding and applying Design Principles, especially through the step-by-step transition from Task 1 to Task 3. In Task 1, I gained key concepts such as Gestalt theory, contrast, emphasis, balance, repetition, movement, harmony & unity, symbol, and word-image relationship. Through the examination of a prior design project, I understood how these principles interact with each other to make visual impact and communicate effectively. The most enjoyable task was Task 3, through which I could translate my previous research and sketches into an end-to-end developed poster design. It was thrilling to implement what I had learned about design principles into a real-world outcome. I enjoyed also working with Photoshop and Procreate in combination—especially the experimentation with halftone and glitch aesthetics to achieve visual rhythm and a good concept. I disliked Task 1, particularly the first stage of composing the analysis. At first, I found it difficult to clearly define and state the design principles. But then I realized that this exercise was a good stepping stone to the following stages of the project. This module taught me that I enjoy using visual narrative and conceptual design. I also discovered that I do well if I can experiment and combine analog analysis with digital execution. I gained more confidence in identifying and applying design principles to my work. My learning process has transformed with the way I now value composition and design intention, rather than mere visual form. My passion and interest in creative experimentation remain unchanged, though. In the future, my aspiration is to continue developing my visual communication skills and to use design principles more critically in the subsequent work. I plan to play more with various styles while maintaining my conceptual core.
