Application Design Task 4

Reflection

Task 4 allowed me to deepen my understanding of how user experience design extends beyond task completion to shaping users’ emotions, trust, and long-term engagement. Building on the usability-focused outcomes of Task 3, this task challenged me to think more strategically about how design decisions can support both user needs and business goals simultaneously.

Through this task, I learned the importance of designing engagement features that feel natural rather than intrusive. By extending familiar user behaviours—such as order tracking, rewards, and feedback—into progress-based systems and gamification elements, I was able to enhance user motivation without increasing cognitive load. This reinforced the idea that effective gamification does not rely on novelty, but on thoughtful integration into existing flows.

I also gained valuable insight into monetization strategies and their relationship with user trust. Designing transparent commission structures and delivery fees helped me understand how revenue models can be communicated clearly without negatively impacting the user experience. Balancing commercial sustainability with user-centred design was one of the most challenging yet rewarding aspects of this task.

Overall, Task 4 strengthened my ability to approach UX design holistically—considering usability, emotional experience, engagement, and business viability as interconnected elements. This project has helped me develop a more mature and strategic design mindset that I can apply to future digital product designs.
