Experience
This semester has been a journey of growth and learning. I was introduced to new tools and techniques in Adobe Illustrator, which I applied to various tasks. The earlier tasks, such as exploring composition through foreground, middle ground, and background, laid a strong foundation for my work. However, task 4 was the most challenging, as it required creating a detailed comic and cover page. This task pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and manage multiple elements while maintaining a cohesive style.
Mr. Hafiz's guidance and feedback were instrumental in helping me navigate these challenges. He provided useful tutorials and insights that made the learning process smoother. While I faced difficulties with balancing detail and simplicity in my designs, I am happy with the outcomes and the progress I’ve made this semester.
Observations
I realized that while I’ve improved in certain areas, like composition and color theory, there’s still room to grow, especially in creating more intricate and engaging backgrounds. For instance, I tended to rely on simpler backgrounds in the comic panels to save time, which may have limited the overall storytelling impact. I also observed that planning and research play a vital role in enhancing the visual narrative. With better planning, I could have created more dynamic and immersive scenes.
Findings
Time management proved to be one of the most critical aspects of this course. I planned my tasks to meet deadlines, but there were times when I underestimated the time needed for detailed work, leading to a rushed process. This experience has taught me the importance of allocating sufficient time for each stage of the project, from brainstorming to execution.
Feedback from Mr. Hafiz was another key factor in my improvement. It gave me clarity and direction, helping me refine my designs and grow more confident in my abilities. Moving forward, I plan to incorporate feedback earlier in my workflow to achieve better results.
This semester has been both challenging and rewarding. It helped me strengthen my skills, identify areas for improvement, and gain confidence in my creative process. I’m looking forward to applying these learnings to future projects.
