Experience
As a student working on this assignment, I had the opportunity to delve deeply into the creative and technical aspects of digital imaging. This project was an exciting challenge, allowing me to combine conceptual thinking with practical skills. The process of designing the poster involved exploring various Photoshop techniques, such as layering, blending modes, and the application of filters. It was particularly rewarding to see how different elements, like text and imagery, could come together to convey a cohesive visual narrative.
Initially, working with Adobe Photoshop felt overwhelming due to the vast array of tools and effects. However, as I experimented with techniques such as gradient maps, noise layers, and Gaussian blur, I gained a clearer understanding of how these elements can enhance depth and atmosphere. The quote "Swimming through a sea of thoughts, searching for the words to heal my hearts" served as a meaningful anchor for my design, guiding my choices in composition and visual effects. Each step, from crafting the fish overlay to integrating text in an engaging way, was a valuable exercise in creative problem-solving.
Observations
Throughout this assignment, I observed the transformative power of digital tools in shaping a design's impact. Unlike traditional media, where revisions can be labor-intensive, digital design offered me the flexibility to experiment and refine my work iteratively. I also noticed how different Photoshop techniques could evoke specific emotions—for example, applying a gradient map helped unify the colour scheme, creating a dreamy, introspective atmosphere that aligned with the theme of the poster. Additionally, peer feedback during the process provided fresh perspectives and inspired me to explore new design strategies.
Findings
This project reinforced the importance of balancing technical precision with creative exploration. I learned that effective poster design relies not only on visual appeal but also on how well the composition communicates the intended message. From working with overlays to experimenting with text placement, I gained a deeper appreciation for how each design element contributes to the overall narrative. This experience has significantly improved my confidence in using digital tools and has prepared me to tackle more complex design challenges in the future.
